FAQ

Questions people ask first

Short answers about how Obvious Later works, written to match what the site actually does today.

What is Obvious Later?
Obvious Later is a free forecasting site for open questions about frontier science and technology. You give a question a private probability from 0 to 100% before the crowd forecast is shown to you. Every call is timestamped and cannot be edited, and each question resolves Yes or No against rules written when it opened.
What is a call?
A call is your probability that something will happen, from 0 to 100. A call of 70 means you expect it to happen about seven times out of ten in situations like this one. You make it before you see what everyone else thinks.
Do I need an account to make a call?
You can pick your answer first. A free account saves it, so the call is stamped and kept as a receipt you can open later.
Does it cost anything?
Making calls, the crowd reveal, your receipts, public signals and the weekly brief are free. Paid membership is not on sale during the free beta, and no payment is collected.
Is this betting?
No. No money rides on any forecast. There are no wagers, no payouts and no markets. A call is a record of your own judgment.
Who decides how a question resolves?
The rules are written when the question opens. Each one names what counts as Yes, what counts as No, the source and the date, so the answer does not depend on anyone's opinion afterwards.
Can I change a call after I save it?
No. A saved call is locked with its timestamp. That is what makes it worth showing later, because you cannot quietly improve it once the answer is known.
How do I know the record is real?
Every call gets a public fingerprint. Fingerprints are grouped into hourly batches on the public ledger, and anyone can run the verify script to rebuild the batches from the public data.
How are calls judged?
Once a question resolves, your call is compared with what happened. Calibration asks whether the things you rated at 70% came true about 70% of the time. Early results are provisional until enough of your questions have resolved.
What kinds of questions are there?
Open questions about space, biotech, energy, quantum, robotics and other frontier technology, plus a new Daily Call. We do not publish stock price, crypto price or sports betting questions.
Is this investment advice?
No. Obvious Later offers informational forecasting tools. Forecasts can be wrong and are not investment, financial or legal advice.
